Pregnancy Massage - Abdominal and Full Body
Pregnancy massage can help alleviate many of the syptoms and conditions associated with pregnancy. During this amazing time of physical and emotional change, massage can be of enormous benefit to both the mother and baby. Regular massage during pregnancy can help the mother become more aware of her own body, thus increasing her ability to relax during the first stage of her labour.
This often reults in shorter, easier and less painful births and a lower ratio of postnatal complications. Additionally breast feeding is often more successful due to the increase in prolactin and mammary development.
Amongst many benefits, massage during pregnancy has been found to help alleviate:
- Muscle tension
- Nausea and morning sickness
- Lower back pain
- Swelling / oedema of the feet, ankles and lower legs
- Muscle spasm and cramping
- Breathing problems
- Back, neck and shoulder discomfort caused by hormonal and postural changes
- Nerve / Sciatic pain
It can also help improve:
- Quality of sleep
- Headaches
- Heartburn
- Mood-swings and depression
- Circulation - increasing the flow of nutrients delivered to the baby via the placenta
- Posture
- Digestion
- Hormone Regulation
Body Position During Your Pre-Natal Massage - Many professionals - including myself - consider side-lying the best position for a pregnant woman recieving a massage. There are tables that provide a hole in which the uterus can fit, these however may not be reliable and can still apply pressure to the abdomen or allow the abdomen to dangle, causing uncomfortable stretching of the uterine ligaments. I provide a warm couch with soft fluffly throws and pillows to enable total comfort throughout your treatment, enabling you to totally relax and enjoy your massage.
